Mark down April 1 in your diaries because that date sees the release of what could be one of the best mix albums of the year. The Balance series has been impressing us since Phil K’s mix back in 2002. Since then, everyone from James Holden and Chris Fortier to Jimmy Van M and Lee Burridge have had a shot behind the decks. Now, though, it’s the turn of SOS, the DJ/production trio better known as Omid16b, Desyn Masiello and Demi. And on Balance 13, they’ve got three discs to show off their talents.
Three discs might not be enough because this lot’s pedigree is very impressive. Demi is a globetrotting DJ who also happens to be the brains behind the uber-cool Deeper Substance parties and label. Desyn is a globally revered DJ/producer, whose previous Balance mix stands out as one of the finest, and is also the mastermind and co-owner of labels like Alternative Route, Symphonic and SexOnWax. And then there’s Omid, who’s a sought-after musician responsible for three critically acclaimed artist albums as 16b – find out more about the latest one, Like 3 Ears And One Eye HERE – on top of being the boss of the iconic Alola, Disclosure and SexOnWax labels. And as SOS, they’ve been rocking floors – and decks of boats – the world over with their mind-blowing sets. Their Essential Mix for Radio 1 was a bit special too.
If you’re in Miami for the conference, you can catch the boys playing at Pawnshop on March 17 and at the Tikki Beach Boat Party on March 28. In the meantime, hold tight because we have no doubt this’ll be a belter…
