Their Spirals album Without Control, released last year on Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs imprint, was one of EQ’s favourite longplayers of 2007. Now Fernando Pulichino and Julian Sanza are back in their Silver City guise for a new EP on the always-reliable Deep Freeze Recordings. Following up the superb disco-inspired sounds of the Dubby EP and the blissfull house vibes of the Soul Mekanik versions of Dive Into Dreams from 2006, the Polytechnics EP is the third Silver City release on DF.

The EP kicks off with title track Polytechnics which blends electrofunk vibes perfectly with new-wave sensibilities. Think Greg Wilson mixing up Gary Numan and you won’t be far off. On the flip, nu disco don Pete Herbert (Reverso 68/LSB) cuts up Pendulo, a heavily arrpegiated disco stormer, and transforms it into yet another disco bomb. This was an edit that Pete knocked together for his own DJ sets and the Deep Freeze boys loved it so much they just had to put it on the vinyl. Also included on the EP is Victoria Jam, a no-nonsense heads-down groover of a track to get the dancefloors rocking.

The Polytechnics EP is out on May 8 on Deep Freeze Recordings. Visit www.myspace.com/silvercitymusic, www.myspace.com/deepfreezerecordings and www.myspace.com/peteherbert
