EQ catches up with the rising star as he releases his new track, Blitzkrieg, and delivers an MP3 mix…

Richard Dinsdale has been a very busy man since his explosion onto the scene a few years back, with his tracks and remixes dropping on labels such as Toolroom, GU Music and Renaissance. He’s got a reputation for spending hours perfecting his tracks, and now he’s back with Blitzkrieg, a relentless floor-rocker that comes with remixes from Trevor Loveys, Jon Gurd and Mic Newman. Richard’s currently eased his foot off the remix pedal to focus on his own productions, and if Blitzkrieg is anything to go by, that’s a definite reason to get excited. We caught up with this rising star for a quick chat – and we managed to convince him to give us a rather tasty little MP3 mix too…

Tell us a bit about Blitzkrieg. How's that going down?
It’s going down well. Every time I play it in the clubs I get a good reaction from the crowd so I am very pleased with it. I decided to go a different route with this track, more on the dark side. I tried to experiment with different sounds while still keeping the same style of beats I use on most of my tracks.

Are you devoting more time to production work at the moment?
Definitely, I’m not doing any remix work at the moment to concentrate more on my own productions. I felt last year I was doing too many remixes and using all my sounds up that I wanted to put into my own tracks.

What sort of stuff are you playing out in your sets at the moment?
Basically good house music – everything from techno to electro. I’m not playing as much of that twisted electro anymore, so my sets contain more techno/house records. I still like to play the odd vocal tune and try to drop a classic in there somewhere.

Is this mix a good representation of your current DJ sound?
Yes, I think it is really. I’m playing darker tunes and so the track fits right in there perfectly.

Any other bits and pieces in the pipeline we should know about?
I’ve just finished an album with Michael Gray, so that’s probably why you haven’t seen many singles out from myself. The album shows more of my musical side – it’s full of a lot of styles of music. It’s more electronica meets house. We’re also doing a few singles together including a tune for the summer, and I’m doing some singles by myself. I’ll also be doing the follow-up track to Pulling Me Under with Viveen Wray in the next couple of weeks. Gig-wise, I have a three-date residency at Amnesia this year in Ibiza and various other international gigs.
