March 17 sees the release of a mini-album of remixes of tracks by hot-to-trot band Reverend And The Makers. Last year saw them garnering fans from almost every quarter – they achieved gold status with their top five album, The State Of Things, they had three hit singles (including Heavyweight Champion Of The World), and they played a sell-out tour and festivals galore. Now they’re starting 2008 with a bang, dropping this tasty little remix package. With the album tracks originally produced by the legendary Jagz Kooner, it’s little wonder they lend themselves so readily to the remix treatment. So here we find dubmeister Adrian Sherwood taking the basslines of Sundown On The Empire to new depths – it’s a big summery feel-good mix in a classic Sherwood style. The Elektrons are up next, taking the cheeky lyrics of 18-30, and splicing them with their trademark floor-friendly twists. And finally Machine gets the a full-on remix by Reverend’s Wall Of Sound labelmates Infadels, who deliver a jacking, peak-time tweaker with breakdowns and old-school analogues.
Seems the remixers were pretty excited about the whole project too. Says Adrian: “Reverend And The Makers are one of the most impressive new bands of recent times. A really exciting talent, and Jon is a great, great vocalist.” Luke of the Elektrons adds: “It’s gutsy, sonic steel, outsider pop from Sheffield that hurts. Awesome.” While Infadels reckon: “We took the best track off the Rev's album, injected it with a dose of stadium-sized KLF riffs, crowd noise and mean beat machines.” Catch the band touring the UK from February 19.
