As his second album nears completion, get your ears round Mike’s ‘My Brain Hurts – Why Can’t I Just Play Other People’s Records Rather Than Try To Write My Own’ mix

Mike Monday has our sympathies. Big style. While we’ve been slaving away over radiation-leeching monitors rejigging EQ, Mike’s been stuck in his studio working on his second album, the follow-up to 2006’s excellent Smorgasbord. While we’re in no doubt that Mike’s going producer another belter, he’s under the cosh, creating new sounds to match the majesty of its predecessor. He’s putting the finishing touches to the album this week, and the first single, The 11 11, is due out on Om in March, when it will be launched at the Miami Winter Music Conference. The album is set to follow in June or July, with a launch at Sonar.

In the meantime, here’s a mix Mike did last week, “as I desperately needed a break from finishing my album. It’s a ‘my brain hurts – why can't I just play other peoples records rather than try and write my own’ mix”. Needless to say, it’s a cracker.

And if that’s not enough Mike Monday for you, check out the Great Stuff Records release of Zum Zum, taken from Smorgasbord, on March 5. The rather tasty mix package includes remixes by the legendary Peter Kruder from Vienna, Audiojack (20/20 Vision), Thugfucker and U&K.
