The third part of Italian label Mantra Vibes’ Cocorico mix series drops on February 21 with Ivan Smagghe behind the decks. Ivan’s mix – which includes tracks from the likes of Danton Eeprom, Marc Antona, Partial Arts and Two Lone Swordsmen, and remixes by DJ Koze, Villalobos, Radio Slave and Dave Congreve – follows in the footsteps of Cocorico releases from Oliver Koletzki and Marc Romboy.
Having set up Blackstrobe with fellow Frenchman Arnaud Rebotini, Ivan now lives and works in London, concentrating on his DJing rather than production work. His past compilations have included Fabric, Death Disco (on Eskimo), Suck my Deck for Bugged Out and the epic Kill The DJ, which inspired the evening where Ivan is resident. Says Ivan of this mix: "I strongly believe that a mix CD never is a transparent image of what you play in club. In your car or at home, you are not in a club, and I haven't got you in front of me. But this is as close as I could get. I am not sure it has a style. Or maybe this no-style is mine…”
