With the excellent Smith & Selway debut album, The Coming Storm, still rattling round the EQ stereo, we’ve managed to get our hands on a rather tasty little mix by one half of the duo, delivered all the way from Brazil. The hour-and-a-half live mix by Christian Smith was recorded at Club 69 in Rio De Janeiro just a few days ago, so this is as fresh as it gets. And if you’ve not bought the album yet, this should tempt you…

And in more Smith & Selway news, the duo are all set to release the Point To Point EP on Renaissance. We were as surprised as anyone when Christian announced this unlikely label in our recent interview, but we’ve had a listen to the two-tracker, and it’s a belter. Point To Point is proper dancefloor techno, all tough chords, deep beats and screaming effects. It’s Like That takes over with a guitar-driven riff and a looped vocal sample, plus an addictive funk-fuelled bassline. Says Christian: “I think a lot of people envisage techno as a load of repetitive, aggressive beats. But I think our success has been down to a more melodic, funky approach.” And watch out for two Smith & Selway remixes for Dave Seaman’s Audio Therapy label out in February.
