Carl Cox will be touring the UK for the first time in over a decade this year taking in 11 cities between April 9 and May 3. After a hectic 2008, Carl is excited to be returning to the UK, following last year’s two sell-out shows at Heaven. The tour will be a change to Carl’s usual Carl Cox & Friends concept, with the man himself behind the decks for four-hour sets. “I just wanted to go back to basics,” says Carl. “Carl Cox and Friends is all about the ‘show’ but this tour’s going to be about the music and me as an individual DJ. These are one-on-one club dates, which, back in my old rave days, my name was synonymous with. I still have that pioneering spirit and I want to celebrate the scene with the UK’s amazing crowds. The Heaven nights were a massive challenge – two consecutive nights at the same club – but it was really cool and the vibe from the crowd was amazing. But the last few years I’ve been so busy in Europe and the rest of the world, so I wanted to remind the UK what I do and how much I love it here.”
The tour coincides with the release of Carl’s forthcoming DVD, 24/7, due out in the spring. It’s an exclusive documentary covering the everyday life of Carl and includes more than 80 minutes of exclusive interviews and footage, plus an additional 45 minutes of bonus live footage from Carl’s set on the opening night of Matter in London. “I’ve never documented aspects of my life like this, so it’s been a great experience,” he says. “It really shows what I’m about and how I’ve got where I am today.”
