Remember the days when trance wasn’t a dirty word, the days when labels like Platipus were putting out forward-thinking trance that didn’t have a single thing to do with day-glo jackets or Tiesto? Well, they could be set to make a comeback. Following hot on the heels of the recent re-release of his classic track Madagascar, Simon Berry, aka Art Of Trance, finally drops some new material – the first in more than three years – in the shape of Swarm, which arrives on Platipus on April 20. With a nod to original Platipus releases, Simon has taken his Art Of Trance sound to another level with this track, creating a solid, driving, almost tribal backdrop to his trusted 303’s squelchy overtones. All of which is good news for the many original Platipus fans who have been patiently waiting for new material from the label boss. Telefon Tel Aviv remix the track on the flip, taking it to epic proportions. Sadly, just after finishing the remix, Charles Cooper, one half of Telefon Tel Avid, died. This is a fitting tribute to his talents.
And the Platipus actions doesn’t stop with Swarm. The track comes from the forthcoming Art Of Trance: Retrospective collection, which features three CDs of remastered versions of the now deleted AOT albums Voice Of Earth and Wildlife On One, alongside a CD of new tunes, remixes and hard-to-find tracks.
